INVESTMENT STRATEGIES
Energy Transition
Energy transition investing evaluates changes across the energy system. Opportunities can arise in power generation, storage, networks and technologies that change the efficiency of energy use.
Overview
Investing in how energy is produced, delivered and used.
An investment needs to work at the level of the asset or business, not simply reflect a broad industry trend. Technology performance, contracted demand, grid access, construction requirements and operating economics all matter. The investment case also needs to distinguish durable demand from assumptions dependent on a particular policy or incentive.
Investment focus
Power & storage
Assets and businesses involved in electricity generation, storage and the management of variable supply and demand.
Grid & enabling infrastructure
Systems supporting transmission, distribution, interconnection and the reliable operation of energy networks.
Efficiency & industrial change
Technologies and services that alter energy consumption, improve efficiency or support changes in industrial processes.
Capital structure
Operating-company equity, project equity, joint ventures and structured capital. Development, technology and revenue risks differ across these approaches.
Evaluation
Technology & execution
Assess technical maturity, performance evidence, construction requirements and the ability to deliver at scale.
Commercial economics
Examine customers, contracted revenues, input costs and sensitivity to energy prices or utilization.
System dependencies
Review permits, grid access, supply chains and any reliance on incentives or regulatory decisions.
Risks to consider
Technology may underperform, construction or interconnection may be delayed and energy prices can change materially. Policy shifts, supply constraints and counterparty failures can affect economics. A project's environmental purpose does not remove investment risk.
Does the asset remain economically viable if key price, policy or delivery assumptions change?
These considerations are illustrative and not exhaustive. Evaluate any actual investment using its own documents, terms and risk disclosures.
